Vodafone and O2 (CTIL) Monopoles (Streetworks Sites)

Monopole masts are a common part of the Urban street scene as they are a compact, visually unobtrusive, method of providing infill coverage, increased capacity or 'just' general coverage to an area. Most modern monopoles are produced by Hutchinson Engineering or Alifabs, a Commscope Company, with a lot of the cabinets being manufactured by Alifabs too. This page concerns the Monopoles used by the mobile network operators Vodafone and O2. I have produced a video detailing these Monopoles and cabinets.

Hutchinson Jupiter Dual stack

Hutchinson Jupiter Dual Stack Monopoles are typically found in London, the South West and North West of the UK: areas that Vodafone is in control of Beacon in.



Hutchinson Jupiter Dual Stack Monopole and cabinets for 900MHz 2G and 3G, 800MHz 4G, 2100MHz 3G for Vodafone and O2 as part of CTIL (Cornerstone Infrastructure Limited). The Shroud is vertically split: half for Vodafone, half for O2. They usually use triple input band panels on each stack, so top layer panels: 800 4G (shared), 900MHz Operator A, 2100MHz Operator A. Lower layer: Operator B 900MHz, Operator B 2100MHz, spare. See CTIL mast schematics here

The Cabinets, from Left to right are: Alifabs RBS610, Alifabs RBS6102, TEF Cannon and Alifabs Meter. Alifabs Lancasters tend to look rather similar to TEF Cannons.


In one case, I have seen a dual stack Jupiter used for Vodafone, O2 AND EE, 3. The CTIL antennas in the top section and EE and 3 below.


Hutchinson Jupiter Single Stack

These are used in the North and South East mainly.


A Hutchinson Jupiter Single Stack Monopole with Ericsson RBS6102 cabinets for 900MHz 2G and 3G, 800MHz 4G, 2100MHz 3G and 1800MHz 4G, if required, for Vodafone and O2 as part of CTIL (Cornerstone Infrastructure Limited). Usually use triple input/band panels. 3 and EE sometimes use so they can deploy 800, alongside the usual 1800 and 2100.

A Hutchinson Pandora Single stack Monopole broadcasting 800/900/2100, complete with Alifabs RBS6102 Cabinets. Some seem to be only 1800/2100MHz though.


A Dual Stack 2100MHz 3G Only CTIL Monopole complete with an Alifabs RBS6102 Cabinet and Meter Cabinet. Most likely Hutchinson Slimline. 

Compact Telegraph Poles

Used in Visually Sensitive areas


A Replica Telegraph Pole with Bolt on Shroud. This mast was broadcasting 800 and 900MHz but can readily accommodate 1800MHz and 2100MHz.

Other types of Cabinets used on above monopoles

Huawei BTS3900AL cabinets.

Lancaster Cabinets used to house Nokia Siemens Networks (NSN) Equipment.


Legacy Vodafone and O2 Monopoles

Some Legacy monopoles. 

On the Left, an Omni-directional G900 mast, which are rarely seen broadcasting Vodafone or O2 2G. 

Middle: A design which outputs either 900MHz 2G or dual stack 2100MHz (ie Vodafone and O2 2100MHz 3G)

Right: A Legacy Vodafone 2100MHz monopole, complete with an RBS3102 Cabinet.

Legacy Cabinets:

An old Vodafone RBS 3107 Cabinet. Usually fitted when a 3G 2100MHz mast was previously used.  

A Nokia WCDMA base Cabinet. Seen on all Networks for 3G.

Another RBS Cabinet. Either an RBS3102 or RBS2106 (they look quite similar).

with a Single Stack Jupiter later on, so there is now a pair of the Jupiters.
